Hempfield Video and TV
A Television Station for Hempfield Township?
It is challenging to communicate with 40,000+ people when unexpected events
emerge or last minute changes take place to planned activities.
“We think we have an answer to that obstacle that will affect a majority of
our residents,” explained Townshjp Manager Kurt Ferguson. "Hempfield will
acquire, through Comcast Cable, its own local television station."
That station will be specific to Hempfield and allow the Township to post
specific information, almost instantaneously, as situations dictate. For
example if your child is enrolled in soccer and the weather is acting up, the
Township will be able to post if that soccer game or practice is cancelled. If
there is another significant storm and roads are closed or there is a dangerous
situation, the Township will be able to post that information on its television
channel within minutes.
Hempfield will also have information promoting events or activities as it
does on the website. This channel will be specific to Comcast subscribers.
"In the next couple of years Verizon will be offering cable services to
Hempfield residents,” Mr. Ferguson added, “and we will have that same channel
through Verizon. We are able to do that through negotiations with the cable
company.”
For those that have Direct TV that channel unfortunately will not be
available. The Township will work to coordinate with the School District to
post information regarding school closings as well. Instead of having to get up
in the morning and watch the local news scroll through 300 or 400 schools until
you see Hempfield, you will be able to go right to the Hempfield channel and
find out if your school is closed.
Mr. Ferguson said, “Our hope is to have this television channel in operation
by the end of this year. We will provide updates on the station’s status and
what channel to turn to.”
