2009 Disease Briefing on the H1N1 Swine Flu

On Sunday, April 26, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services declared a public health emergency in the United States. This is a standard operating procedure and allows the U.S. to free up federal, state, and local agencies and their resources for prevention and mitigation; it allows to use medication and diagnostic tests that otherwise may not be used, particularly on very young children; and it releases funds for the acquisition of additional antivirals.
