Notice to Allegheny Power Customers
Allegheny Power will be performing tree trimming and removal, brush
clearing and herbicide application, as needed along electric line
rights-of-way in your area. These activities are necessary to ensure
safe, reliable electric service to you and your neighbors.
The contractor, Asplundh Tree Expert Company, will be visiting your
area soon and will continue working until all required maintenance is
completed. This notice is final and no additional notification will be
performed.
Wood chips may be available upon request. If you would like a load of
chips, please call 1-888-569-6914. If you have questions regarding
Allegheny’s vegetation maintenance program, please call 1-800-Allegheny
(1-800-255-3443) and ask that a representative from the Forestry
Department contact you.

The Hempfield Township Public Works Department is comprised of four
divisions, including Parks, Traffic Safety, Fleet Maintenance, and our Road
Division. You can learn more about each by visiting the pages below:
Did you know Hempfield Township has over 300 miles of Township owned roads?
In addition, the Township has winter maintenance agreements with local
developers for certain housing developments. The Township does all maintenance
on these roads, which includes: snow removal, traffic control and signs, road
shoulder maintenance and mowing, asphalt repairs, and drainage.
To meet its commitments, the Public Works Department owns and maintains over
100 pieces of road, park, general government, and emergency vehicles.
The Public Works Department maintains all Township owned facilities,
including: the township building, Hempfield Park, Route 136 property and several
leased parks/fields such as Swede Hill, Grapeville, Bovard, and Hannastown fire
department fields. Also several fields with usage agreements such as
School District fields, Tillbrook field, St. Johns, Cool Valley, Brooklane, etc.

2009-2010 Winter Snow Removal Quick Facts
- Hempfield maintains 300 miles of Township roads
- The storage building holds 3,500 tons of salt
- 2009-2010 cost per ton of salt is $49.82 (price is
adjusted monthly based on fuel costs)
- Hempfield uses an average of 12,500 tons of salt and
anti-skid per year
- Currently there are 25 snow routes developed
- There are thirty-three (33) drivers available for winter
snow removal
- The Hempfield Public Works Department has the following
snow removal equipment available for snow storms: Three (3)
Tandem dumps with plows and spreads
- Twenty (20) single axle dumps with plows and spreads
- Five (5) one-ton dumps with plows and spreads
- Two (2) pickups with plows
- Three (3) front-end loaders
- Three (3) back-hoe loaders; One (1) road grader
