Sports League Registration Policy

All players in league sports must register prior to the listed deadline. Players registering between the deadline and team drafts or first league games, whichever comes first, will be placed on a waiting list. NO registrations will be accepted on or after team draft or first league game.

Youth Sports

There are hundreds of boys and girls that participate in youth sports every year in Hempfield Township. One measure of success in these programs is the number of parents who volunteer as coaches and assistant coaches.

Unfortunately, many parents do not get involved because they feel a lack of knowledge about that particular sport. However, if they did get involved, even more kids could participate.

We conduct Hempfield Recreation programs on a “participation” philosophy. We feel it is more important for all youths to play and enjoy the sport, rather than to win at all costs. We never measure success in wins and loses. Youth Sports coaches do not need experience, only the willingness and enthusiasm to coach. Kids and coaches alike should have fun. Coaching is a fulfilling aspect of any sport, especially youth sports.

Youth Basketball (Boys & Girls Ages 4 to Grade 12)

Registration begins Monday, October 12, 2009 at the Recreation Office. Separate registration forms are required and will be available the week of September 28. Deadline for registration is October 23. Registration accepted after the deadline and up to team drafts will be put on a waiting list.

Winter Cheerleading for Youth Basketball (Grades 3 to 6)

Registration begins Monday, November 2, 2009 at the Recreation Office. Separate registration forms are required and will be available the week of October 19. Deadline for registration is November 13. Registrations accepted after the deadline will be placed on a waiting list. Practices begin Wednesday, November 26.

Winter Youth Wrestling (Ages 7 to 14)

Registration begins Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Recreation Office. Separate
registration forms are required and will be available the week of October 12. Hempfield
Recreation Wrestling Team competes on Saturdays through March at various tournaments
and as part of the Keystone League. Practices begin the week of November 16.
