We are excited to provide you with a status update to the Township’s Park Master plan.

We have received $212,000 from Pennsylvania’ Greenways and Trail Grant program in order to improve upon our soccer fields at Hempfield Park. This will include the addition of a restroom facility to that area of the park, as well as improved accessibility, and field lighting. We anticipate this project being completed in 2017.

We are pleased to inform you that we are in receipt of a second grant from the Greenways and Trail program in the amount of $215,000 to construct a sixth pavilion at Hempfield Park. For the past few years, the demand for our pavilions has spiked and this will allow us to offer you another wonder facility to rent. This construction will be completed in 2018.

In 2016, we were able to complete renovations to Pavilion E with a completely remodeled kitchen and bathroom. Thanks to Lowes Home Improvement and the Dominion Foundation for providing valuable resources to bring this project to fruition. In addition to support from these two partners we were granted funds from Pirates Charities. This money is being used to re-design the lower baseball field and rededicate it as Mazeroski Field. This field renovation will be completed in the spring of 2017.

Also in 2017, you will see an upgrade to the walking track in front of the Municipal Building along Woodward Drive. This will be completed in conjunction with the paving of Woodward Drive as part of a $460,000 grant received from the Multi-modal Grant Fund.

Check the links to the left or stop by Main Office or Athletic Complex to view a more detailed version of these plans and to ask any questions you may have. In the meantime, should you have any immediate questions regarding this project, or would like to find out how you can help, please contact Township Manager Jason M. Winters  at jwinters@hempfieldtwp.org.

Continuing to serve,

Doug Weimer, John Silvis, Tom Logan, Jerry Fagert, and George Reese
