Acceptable materials include: Newspaper, glass, catalogs, magazines, junk mail and office paper; corrugated cardboard (flattened); chipboard (cereal boxes, etc.), aluminum and bi-metal cans; plastics #1 - #7 (please note that the stickers on the drop-off bins specify #1 & #2 only; however, #3 - #7 are also acceptable).

Unacceptable materials include: Household trash, styrofoam, and items contaminated by food (pizza boxes, etc.).

Hempfield Township is dedicated to providing its residents more recycling opportunities, and to make its communities cleaner and healthier. Every time you take your recyclables to the curb or to the Single Stream drop-off bins, remember that your recycling efforts benefit everyone!

Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Don’t know what to do with all those poisons and chemicals cluttering up your basement or garage? Afraid to throw them in the trash or dump them down the drain because you’re not sure if it’s safe? Bring them to the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection. Thanks to the financial support received from the Supervisors, Hempfield Township residents may take advantage of this collection at no charge.

Household hazardous waste is any material discarded from homes that may threaten human health or the environment when disposed of improperly. Containers holding these items often use the words: danger, caution, warning, poison, corrosive, flammable, explosive, oxidizer, irritant, harmful, or fatal.

The following items ARE NOT accepted at this collection: explosives such as ammunition, fireworks, blasting caps, flares or gun powder; pressurized fire extinguishers; empty or dry paint cans; latex paint; radioactive waste or smoke detectors; regulated substances, construction wastes, tires, car batteries and motor oil.
