Clean Up Dog Waste

Pet waste is natural but with our roads and efficient drainage systems, dog waste has a fairly easy and direct route to our lakes and streams.

Please remember that the placement and/or collection of animal waste on public or private property may constitute a hazard to the health and safety and general welfare of the community. The Township kindly asks that every resident curb their dog and remove any waste left behind. Also, please be reminded that your dog may not run at large and if so, the dog catcher may be called.

Thank you in advance for adhering to these guidelines. Together we can help to keep Hempfield a safe environment to live and raise your family, dogs included.

Protect Your Pets

It is unlawful to permit any dog, cat or any other animal in the nature of a pet to run at large upon any property not belonging to the owner of such animals.

Please contact the Hempfield Township Code Enforcement Office for concerns about animals running at large. The Code Enforcement Office can be reached at 724-834-7232, extension 240.

The Township Animal Control Officer is Gary Hoffman of Hoffman Kennels. He is located at 285 Cloverleaf Drive, Delmont, and can be contacted at 724-468-5505 should your pet be lost.

To license or microchip your dog contact the Westmoreland County Treasurer’s Office at 724-830-3180. Information is also available at the County’s website: www.co.westmoreland.pa.us.

Neglect and/or cruelty incidents to animals in your neighborhood should be reported to the Westmoreland County Humane Agents. The Humane Society of Westmoreland County in the Greensburg/Hempfield area takes calls at 724-689-9468.

The Humane Society of Westmoreland County, located on Route 119 North, is a 501(c)3 dedicated to rescue/shelter/ adoption of companion animals.
