Volunteer Opportunities

Hempfield Township Parks & Rec

Maybe you'd like to coach or you find you have some time where you could help at the Athletic Complex or during Community Day.  Learn more on the Parks & Rec Volunteer Page.

Red Cross Volunteers

Giving back to the community has been proven to be one of the best mental habits. The Red Cross is always recruiting for volunteers to work at the Westmoreland County Blood Drives and as Disaster Responders.

All required training is free and made available locally at the Red Cross Chapter located in Greensburg. Monthly orientations are scheduled.

Westmoreland County Food Bank Donation Site At Hempfield Township Athletic Center

The Hempfield Township Athletic Center is an official Donated Food Drop-off Site for Westmoreland County Food Bank. Anyone wanting to donate food can drop it off between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Monday through Saturday.

The Athletic Center is located in Hempfield Park at 220 Forbes Trail Road, Greensburg. All donated items must:

  •  Be non-perishable. This would include any canned or boxed items, juices, pasta, canned meats, sauces, prepared foods, etc.;
  • Have original manufacturer’s label. If the label of an item is missing, they will not be able to redistribute the item;
  • Be free from obvious defect or contamination. This could include “popped tops” on cans and mold or rust on cans, bottles, etc.

The Food Bank CANNOT accept the following:

  • Homemade goods or canned items;
  • Baby food in jars;
  • Pesticides/Herbicides;
  • Toxic chemicals such as motor oil or oven cleaners;
  • Prescription drugs;
  • Any item that has been opened or the seal is broken.

Volunteering is another way to support the Food Bank. If you care about the hungry in your community, please volunteer. Groups and individuals are welcome.

There are many ways to volunteer including the food drives, pantry, warehouse, office, and senior food box program, etc. Contact Louise Wilhelm, volunteer coordinator at 724-468-8660, extension 13, or e-mail her at louise@westmorelandfoodbank.org.
