Hempfield Township is excited to announce the completion of the Hempfield Park Master Plan. Over the past year, Hempfield Township has worked with Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. to develop a 10 – 15-year Master Plan for Hempfield Park. The plan will be a decision-making guide for the municipality, assist in obtaining funding for facilities, projects, and programs, and identify needs and opportunities within the department. The new Hempfield Park Master Plan focuses on four key objectives:

• Enhancing the park environment
• Expanding recreation opportunities
• Fine-tuning park operations
• Welcoming all people with better accessibility

Hempfield Park Master Plan

Hempfield Park is the premier park serving Hempfield Township. Though located in the far northern part of the expansive Township, Hempfield Park is central to recreation, community and conservation for many Township residents and stakeholders. In 2022 Hempfield Township contracted with HRG to prepare a Master Plan for Hempfield Park. This plan is an update to the 2014 Rehabilitation Master Plan prepared by Gibson-Thomas Engineering. Many of the projects proposed in 2014 have been completed, through the constant and proactive efforts of Township staff and the generosity of community sponsors. 

The purpose of this plan is to:

• Assess the existing conditions of the park and provide recommendations that are consistent with park users’ current needs and compliant with applicable laws and regulations
• Provide a planning tool for municipal capital budget allocation
• Provide a plan and background information to be used in applying for project funding
